Reinit Merge Replication Subscription

description

There should be an option (like in SQL Server Managment Studio 2008, see attached screenshot) to force reinitialization (with or without upload changes). Currently if reinitialization is required there is no way to force it. So add an option to enable this to the Sync form, and call http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlserverce.sqlcereplication.reinitializesubscription(v=vs.90).aspx with the selected option

Is the error not displayed - do you mean display no Message box, just display as text in the output window?
I will consider your other proposals for the next release

I've started testing today and it looked like that:
Started Sync, it started and seen progress in log window (the small box on the bottom).
Hower replication fired error "Try resynchronize". I couldn't see anything else from error message. But I know that this has more message to display, since it is from replicatiin. E.g. retenction period metatada cleanup.
This error message was Toolbox error message (like toolbox crash). But it wasn't crash in any way. It was just error from replication. So error can be displayed in output window. It doesn't have to be popup or similar thing. Just display everything possible.

I have updated to version 3.2.0.1 on VS Gallery, could you let me know if this sorts your issue?

msmolka wrote Jan 11, 2013 at 1:05 PM

When I see latest version in vs gallery I will test and let you know. Currently even if I remove and add toolbox it still adds version 3.2.0.0. Also in gallery I cannot find the version you mentioned yet.

Sorry, forgot to hit save, it is there now...

I can now see all errors in output window. Thanks for that.
Waiting for reinitialization option.

I have uploaded a "private build" - let me know if this Works for you...

msmolka wrote Jan 16, 2013 at 11:38 AM

No, I'm afraid it is not working. When I press Reinitialize (any) it shows Error windows saying Required property is not specified (Publisher). But this property is there becuase it is used by SYNC.

BTW. The only difference between normar sync and reinialization is calling code similar to:
repl.RenitainitializeSubscription(true/false);

It looks like in your code you separted reinitialization from normal sync. But it shouldn't be like that. Renitailziationn to code is just one additinal metod called.

ErikEJ wrote Jan 17, 2013 at 1:34 PM

Thanks for the feedback - I have not seperated this from normal sync. it is just the UI. But it looks like I was calling Reinit too early in my replication library - will fix and re-upload.

Hello,
I've tested the latest change and now it is working. BTW. Would it be possible to make output window bigger or sizable? With reinitialization there is quite a lot info and sometimes difficult to see becuase scrolling is required.

Glad to hear it is working, will look at the textbox size....
